Position: Health Services Specialist
Your passion for helping children receive adequate health and wellness services is what makes you a great fit as our Health Services Specialist. In addition to your ability to handle details correctly and efficiently, you will lean into your socially focused, ‘how can I help you?’ attitude as you connect our program’s children and families with medical providers of health and dental care. We are Ogden Weber Community Action Partnership (OWCAP), and we are searching for a Health Services Specialist to manage and coordinate the health, dental, safety, and nutritional needs of our program’s children in accordance with all applicable standards and regulations.
What you’ll need to be our Health Services Specialist:
- Congenial and cooperative with an efficient, precise work ethic
- Socially focused with natural rapport-building skills
- Unselfish and approachable with a preference for detailed, skill-based work
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Nursing, Health Education or closely related degree
- Two years full-time, paid experience in public health, nursing, health education, maternal child health or health administration.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Experience in Microsoft Office.

What you will do as our Health Services Specialist:
- Work closely with Health Services Manager, Family Service Workers, teaching teams, and families to monitor compliance pertaining to health, nutrition and safety requirements. Determine if children have up-to-date immunizations.
- Develop and maintain health and nutrition plans needed in classrooms for Head Start/Early Head Start children. Provide families with community resources as needed.
- Follow-up with health screenings needing further treatments; consult with medical providers and Head Start staff.
- Review, evaluate, and interpret health, dental, and nutrition records and other vital health services data.
- Support training of staff to utilize proper technique, handling, and storing of medications in the classrooms.
- Assist the Health Services Manager with Head Start Advisory Committee meetings. Attend assigned meetings and trainings.
- Participate on community boards and work with community partnerships to further the mission and vision of Head Start and health services.
- Provide assigned trainings to staff, children, and parents (guardians) concerning health-related topics as needed.
